After years of record population growth, Mesa is finally receiving its share of
modern health facilities. Medical treatment opportunities for Mesa residents are
increasing with a new hospital, expanding facilities, and state-of-the-art equipment.
The new 178-bed Mountain Vista Hospital at Southern and Crismon with upscale patient
care and cutting edge technology has attracted some of the Valley’s most sought
after doctors and nurses.
These new health care opportunities include Banner Baywood Hospital on Power near
Broadway, which recently completed a new seven-story patient tower that provides
56 additional patient rooms, a new 26 bed Intensive Care Unit and two more operating
suites. The total number of inpatient beds at Banner Baywood is now 308 with the
ability to add 84 more patient rooms as demand increases. At the same site, Banner
Baywood Heart Hospital is now the second largest freestanding heart hospital in
the United States. It is ranked as one of the top heart hospitals in the country.
Banner Desert Hospital at Dobson and US 60 is also expanding with the construction
of a new, high-tech children's hospital and potential trauma center, which will
be a first for Mesa and the East Valley. The Banner Health Group is also near completion
of a new hospital on the Gilbert/Mesa border near Baseline and Higley.
The new health care opportunities continue with expanded investment in Mesa. A children’s
hospital operated by Vanguard Health Systems and Phoenix Children’s Hospital
is under construction near the corner of Higley and Southern. It will be Phoenix
Children’s first ‘community center’ and will allow Mesa families
to benefit from the expertise of Phoenix Children’s specialized physicians.
Just south of the hospital, A.T. Stills University recently opened a new dental
training facility and are now opening the first medical school to train new doctors
in the East Valley. A new adjoining hospital is in the planning stages.
Mesa General Hospital, located north of University and Mesa Drive, continues to
be one of the busiest emergency hospital facilities in the Valley as well as an
excellent cardiac and birthing center.
Each of these facilities provides health care for Mesa rapidly growing population.
In the last census, Mesa was only 39,000 residents behind Atlanta in population.
Mesa is on its way to becoming a modern city with high quality health care.
